LS Cable & System wins a contract for an extra high voltage cable project from EDF
■ Technological expertise acknowledged by one of the world leaders of electric power generation
■ Accomplished through cooperation with Superior Essex, the U.S. subsidiary of LS Cable & System

Seoul, Korea, June, 18th - It was announced on the 18th that LS Cable & System (Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo) had become the first Korean company to win a contract from EDF (Électricité de France), Europe’s largest power generation company. The contract is to supply 5.5 kilometer long 225kV extra high voltage cables and attendant connectors for the La Rance Power Station located in Bretagne in northwestern France. As part of the contract LS Cable & System will also be responsible for supervising the laying of the cables and installation of the connectors.

EDF is the world’s second largest power company. As a world-class enterprise known especially for its electric power expertise, EDF provides consulting services for power network installation and operation not only within France, but also to countries all over the world. Even European cable makers are reluctant to bid for contracts from EDF because of the company’s strict quality control and thoroughgoing construction management.

France has traditionally been at the leading edge of electric power technologies. This is the country where IEC (International Engineering Consortium) standardization began and CIGRE (Conseil International des Grands Reseaux Electriques), the world’s largest electric power association, was founded. Therefore, LS Cable & System announced that, by winning this project from EDF, it has been officially acknowledged for its top-notch technological power.

LS Cable & System once again verified that its technological power and product competitiveness are of the world’s highest standard as it was selected for this EDF project amidst fierce competition against European cable makers who enjoy significant influence in global markets. In particular, having succeeded in winning the contract through close cooperation with its U.S. subsidiary, Superior Essex (SPSX), LS Cable & System has demonstrated that its global cooperation system is being effectively implemented.

“Since we started overseas market entry, we have always been looking forward to supplying our products to France, a center of advanced power technologies,” said LS Cable & System President & CEO Jongho Son. “By winning this project, LS Cable & System has been acknowledged of its global-standard products and installation expertise. With this success we will further accelerate our global market entry.”
